Maharashtra floods: CM chairs meeting with officials from banks and insurance firms
A day after there was confusion on the relief package for Maharashtra flood-hit districts Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray chaired meetings with the officials from 11 insurance companies and bankers, calling them to resolve the allegations without wasting any further time and providing loans at lower rates.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray urged the insurance companies and banks for a moderate approach towards the people who have been affected by the flood due to incessant rain in the city in the past week. They have been further asked to release 50% of the cover of traders and citizens soon. The companies have been asked to complete all the required procedures at the earliest.

CM has also urged the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to assist the companies to take the point that has been raised by the state revenue authorities for the settlement of the claims. The Chief Minister has written a letter to the Union Finance Minister where he stated that the people who have been affected due to the flood in Konkan and Western Maharashtra are eagerly waiting for the settlement of the claims against the insurance of their vehicles, shops, and houses.

“The insurance company has already shown agreement for the release of 50 percent of the claim amount with the help of the assessment by the revenue department but they need further directives from the Central government to their headquarters and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority. Such directives are not being given for the first time earlier too the Centre has given such directives during the floods in Kerala and Jammu and Kashmir,” stated the letter.
