Mumbai: Christian Community asks for a larger pie in local political issues
As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022 approach a united front has been opened by the Christian community. The reason being an increase in the numbers of representation in political parties to make sure that all the issues are addressed. Under the United Christian Front (UCF) the community as part of its ‘Mission BMC Elections 2022’ arranged a gathering of representatives from different political parties and the community itself.

While addressing, the community declared freedom fighter Kaka Baptista as its role model. The United Christian Front (UCF) initiated all efforts so that the voice of the Christian community is heard. United Christian Front (UCF) participated in the civic polls in January 2021 and now its members have started meeting political parties demanding representation for Catholics in the polls to different local bodies across the state.

In a statement, the representative stated that as of now United Christian Front (USF) has not extended direct support to any political parties and that they would encourage more and more candidates to contest from the community on any party tickets or even solo.
“We are not supporting any party as we are apolitical. But it is encouraged by us to the community to come forward and demand tickets from different political parties to contest local civic body polls. On Sunday, 28 people from various political parties, representatives from the community, and social activists participated in the gathering.

We look at this event as our way forward for Christian participation in the political and social field through the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 and the same was discussed and chalked out in detail during the gathering,” stated the UCF Convenor, Alexander D'Souza, said.
