Ahead of the
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray, has asked officers to prepare a time-bound plan to provide tap connection in rural areas on a war-footing till 2024. Under the Central Government’s Jal Jeevan Mission, out of the 14,236,000 tap connections, the state of Maharashtra has completed 65 percent, and the remaining connections stand at 4.9 million.
After a review meeting conducted by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, he stated all the requirements for this programme of Jal Jeevan Mission, will be fulfilled on the state's behalf and it will never fall short of it. “The main motive of Jal Jeevan Mission is to provide more than 14.23 million tap connections in the rural areas of the state of Mumbai till the year 2024. Although the set aim is very huge the this has to be done as it is very important.
And the achievement of this huge number will be done if a time-bound programme is drawn up and implemented by all the agencies under this programme,” stated Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. In March 2022 the State of Maharashtra aims at providing 2.75 million taps connects, which will be including a total of 2.75 million tap connections, where 13 districts, 131 blocks, and 12,839 villages will have 100% coverage of the programme., stated the water supply and sanitation department.
The amount expected comes at ?12,950 crores. As per the Ministry of Water Supply a total of ?7,064 crores, has been provided by the centre, while the state has allocated the same amount of funds making ?14,128 crores available for the project. A total of 37.15 lakh tap water connections has been provided in rural areas by Maharashtra.
