Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut stated on Thursday that his detention was political and that such "vendetta politics" had not before been seen in the nation, a day after being released from prison on a money laundering charge. On Wednesday, a Mumbai special court granted bail to Rajya Sabha member Raut, claiming that his arrest was "illegal" and the result of a "witch-hunt." Following his Wednesday 100-day release from Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail, Raut told reporters on Thursday that he will soon meet his party's leader Uddhav Thackeray and NCP President Sharad Pawar. The Sena faction, led by Thackeray, is supported by the NCP.
"Like Savarkar and Tilak, I was held in solitary confinement. Even my arrest was political, and I made the most of my time there. My family and I had to put up with whatever my celebration involved. We have been hurt. My family has endured great loss. In both politics and daily life, "said Raut. "But this brand of politics has never been practised in the nation. Despite 150 years of foreign occupation, we did not experience this level of political vengeance in our nation. Even the adversaries were given respect,” said he.
In the coming days, according to Raut, he would also meet with Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The lawmaker did not provide any information on his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but he did say that he will. The state, according to Raut, is being run by Deputy CM Fadnavis, and the new Eknath Shinde-Fadnavis administration has made some wise choices. In connection with a money laundering investigation involving the Patra Chawl redevelopment project, the ED detained Raut.
Although another co-accused in the same case was arrested for a civil dispute, Special Judge M.S. Deshpande ripped into the ED in the bail order for the "illegal" arrest of Raut with "no reason," saying "this truth is glaring" and how "pure civil disputes were labelled as money-laundering or economic offences." Deshpande also questioned why MHADA officials who may have been connected to the alleged scam as well as the two main suspects, HDIL builders Sarang Wadhawan and Rakesh Wadhawan, had not been apprehended by the ED.
"I maintain that both of the defendants were essentially detained unlawfully. Given the disparity created by the ED's failure to apprehend the main accused, Rakesh and Sarang, HDIL, MHADA, and government officials accountable for the Wadhawans' wrongdoing at the time, both of them are entitled to parity "Deshpande was blunt in his remarks. The Special Judge also took note of the ED's shifting position, which had earlier claimed that the Wadhawans and Pravin Raut were the main defendants before shifting its blame to Sanjay Raut.
