Mumbai Rains: BMC Issues High Tide Timings, IMD Warns of ‘Extremely Heavy Rain’

Mumbai and surrounding regions including Thane and Pune have been reeling under continuous heavy rainfall for the past three days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert for Mumbai and its suburbs, cautioning about the possibility of very heavy to extremely heavy showers. Amid this situation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) released the high tide timings on social media platform X, warning that waves could rise up to 3.75 metres.

The incessant rainfall has led to severe waterlogging in several areas of Mumbai and Thane, with some localities witnessing knee-deep flooding. Civic officials have urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid venturing into flooded areas unnecessarily.

Private offices and companies were advised to allow their employees to work from home in order to avoid travel disruptions and safety risks.

Rainfall Recorded in 24 Hours
According to data provided by officials (PTI), the city has received massive amounts of rainfall in the last 24 hours, ending at 8 am on Tuesday.
  • Island city: 186.43 mm
  • Eastern suburbs: 208.78 mm
  • Western suburbs: 238.19 mm
These figures indicate the intensity of the ongoing downpour, which has already disrupted normal life across the metropolitan region.

IMD’s Forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted “very heavy to extremely heavy” rainfall for Mumbai and its suburbs on Tuesday. Along with this, gusty winds between 45–55 kmph are expected to affect the city, further worsening the situation.
