Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) whether it can introduce a door-to-door Covid-19 vaccination program for senior citizens and persons with disabilities who are unable to visit vaccination centers. The court said the civic body would be allowed to vaccinate from house to house even if there was no center. On May 19, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Deepankar Dutta and Justice GS Kulkarni said the BMC would approve such a move even if it was not approved by the Center.

The court directed BMC Commissioner Iqbal Chahal to submit an affidavit on May 20 on whether senior citizens, the disabled, and the bedridden can be given a home vaccination drive with proper medical care. Or wheelchair-bound. A vaccine not only stimulates the immune response to protect people from any future Covid-19 infection but also enhances the immunity of animals to pandemic termination.

When a sufficient percentage of a population is immunized against a disease, livestock becomes immune, which spreads the disease. It seems that the central government is not interested in a house-to-house vaccination program. If the BMC says that house-to-house vaccination can be started, we will permit it, ”the bench added. The High Court had earlier asked the Central Government to reconsider.

Its policy is that door-to-door vaccination is not possible (for any immediate side effects) due to various reasons such as wastage of vaccines and non-availability of monitoring centers for beneficiaries after vaccination. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also approved the Bombay High Court's order to launch a door-to-door vaccination program against Covid-19.
