Mumbai: The Bombay High Court directed the Maharashtra Government Municipal Corporation (BMC) to respond to a petition filed by Covid-19 patients across the state alleging lack of beds, medicines and oxygen.

Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice G.S. Kulkarni on a public interest litigation referred to the availability of beds for Covid-19 patients, remdesivir injections, oxygen, RT-PCR tests, and rapid antigen testing.  The petitioner Shah told the hospitals that run BMC without a doctor’s prescription are denying rapid antigen testing.

Despite the shortage of beds, celebrities and politicians have not been admitted to hospitals on time. The bench said that the issues raised were serious and directed the civic body, the state and the Center to submit a reply.  The matter will be re considered on April 22
