From the current school year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to open 1,300 new digital classrooms. As of today, the civic body has 1,300 digital classrooms in all of its public schools, with the latest addition bringing the total to 2,600. In 2016, the BMC launched its first digital classrooms in Govandi's Shivaji Nagar neighbourhood. After six years, the number of digital classrooms gradually increased to the current level.

"We finished the preparations and even installed all of the curriculum on electronic devices." "Students can now learn various subjects through audio and video clips," said joint municipal commissioner Ajit Kumbhar. The BMC has been working to improve the conditions of civic-run schools over the last few years. In 2017, it also distributed tablets to Class 10 students in order to improve educational standards.

This year, the civic body budgeted Rs 2,944 crore for education, with Rs 244 crores set aside for capital expenditure. These funds are being used to establish new digital classrooms. Different subjects are taught on digital boards in digital classrooms, with audio and visual representations to aid learning. The civic organisation believes that digital classrooms generate interest.
