The door-to-door vaccination drive of Covid 19 for bedridden people commenced on Friday at noon starting from 14 bedridden citizens at Dr. Niranjan Wagh Home, an old-age home, in Jogeshwari. Extending its drive from Monday the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to vaccinate the neighbouring K-West ward to cover Andheri, Vile Parle (West), and Juhu after successfully commencing the drive for immobile persons in the K-East ward.
The administration drive of vaccination starting from Monday will have two teams having a doctor and nurse. They will commence the door-to-door vaccination drive for the bedridden persons from the K-East ward, after which the teams will administer the people residing in the
K-West ward.
Presently, the two teams and an ambulance from each ward are into this door-to-door service. The team is also accompanied by the ward’s health department. After getting a response the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that the drive of door-to-door vaccination for the bedridden patients will be extended across the city of Mumbai. For the door-to-door vaccination drive, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) now has received details of 4,488 eligible people for the home vaccination drive.
On Friday, the beneficiaries were administered the Covaxin at their residence. 209 registrations were received by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from the
K-East ward. Around 30 citizens from the K-East ward have confirmed their vaccination appointment for Monday, officials said.
This drive came after a PIL was filed by two city-based Lawyers, Dhruti Kapadia and Kunal Tiwari and that is when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) kept this intent to start the home vaccination for senior citizens and bedridden before the Bombay High Court.
The draft policy which was submitted by the state government to the High Court stated that only those citizens will be eligible for the vaccination drive who are physically disabled and wheelchair-bound, on stretchers, those immune-compromised, and on chemotherapy and terminally ill, who cannot be transported.
