Mumbai: The BMC vaccination drive will resume from Tuesday. The civic body also decided that only those over the age of 60 who were going to take the first dose of Covishield on Tuesday and Wednesday would be allowed to be vaccinated. However, not all of its vaccination centers will be open from tomorrow. The vaccination drive will resume on Tuesday, BMC said in a statement. Only people over the age of 60 are allowed to walk to the vaccination centers for the next two days (May 18 and May 19). Online appointments will not be accepted.

The list of immunization centers will be published late at night or early in the morning, officials said. Meanwhile, BMC has asked local ward officials to inspect the vaccination centers as heavy rains and winds are blowing in Mumbai. The Covid-19 vaccination drive has been suspended since May 15 due to warnings of heavy rains following the cyclone in Mumbai.

According to the new guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, only those who are waiting for the second dose of Covishield will be eligible. BMC will provide the first dose of Covishield to beneficiaries over 60 through walk-ins. Covaxin should be given only to beneficiaries seeking a second dose.

After numerous complaints of mismanagement and Covin malfunctions, BMC unveiled a pilot project to make the immune drive more efficient. Under this, BMC will allow walk-in or spot registration to nearby centers for the first three days of the week - Monday to Wednesday - for beneficiaries over 60, those who want a second dose of Covaxin, and those with special abilities. If it is successful, the same format will continue, officials said.
