The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to begin the door-to-door vaccination drive for the bedridden patients that will commence from August 2 in the city of Mumbai. The
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received a list of 4,488 names so far which are being analysed to understand their level of illness and disability. The beneficiaries are being advised to get a medical certificate or an opinion from the doctor stating their fitness to get vaccinated.
The door-to-door vaccination drive was agreed upon by the state and civic authorities after PIL was filed in the Bombay High Court three months ago. The civic officials stated that as August 1 is a Sunday, the drive will commence from the following day. As the preparation has begun, multiple teams of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and attendants are being formed to carry out the drive. The authorities have this huge concern, which they are working on, is to avoid wastage of doses. Once a vial is opened it must be made in use within four hours.
“We have divided the 4,488 beneficiaries between 216 health posts across wards and are still finding the best way to administer the vaccines to them. We are trying to locate clusters, but most buildings seem to have one or two individuals,” stated the Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani. He further said that another challenge is the 30-minute observation time.
On Tuesday, a major number of people were observed taking the vaccination in the city with 96,107 people taking the shots. More than 73,000 doses were given in the public centres. “There is the availability of vaccines till July 29. On Tuesday all over Maharashtra, around 5.7 lakh people got vaccinated,” stated the Civic Officials.
