The BMC conducts diabetes and hypertension doorstep screenings to keep an eye on lifestyle conditions. 4,500 persons each day were checked in throughout Mumbai since the push began last week. It has been suggested that those who suffer from these lifestyle ailments attend BMC hospitals. The civic organisation has decided to check 10,000 patients daily at its 200 centres as a following step.
Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Health), stated that the civic organization's door-to-door initiative is receiving positive feedback. An earlier poll revealed that 34% of Mumbai residents have high blood pressure. The causes of hypertension include bad eating habits, irregular mealtimes, a lack of exercise, and a busy schedule at work. The BMC carried out the survey in accordance with a protocol established by the World Health Organization (WHO). The Municipal Organisation then carried out its screening drive in Mumbai.
50 lakh residents are to be screened by 4,500 accredited social health activists, according to a goal set by the BMC (ASHAs). Suspect patients are recommended to visit large BMC hospitals, while serious patients are directed to
BMC Health Centres where BAMS experts would examine and treat them at their level. The BMC also intends to hire 5,500 more ASHA personnel.
