The State Government's Urban Development Department (UDD) has asked BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal to submit a report or comment on a letter from former Shivsena corporator Amey Ghole requesting that the MCGM Art and Culture Committee be abolished and the charges are transferred to any Deputy Municipal Commissioner or Assistant Municipal Commissioner.

The MCGM Art and Cultural Committee is responsible for regulating, installing, and maintaining public art. The Municipal Commissioner is in charge of it. Ghole had written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and UDD in February, requesting that the Art and Cultural Committee be dissolved. He said that the committee had been inactive for some years and that no ideas for the beautifying of chowks and public spaces had been accepted.

"Committee Chairman Mr. Jha hasn't submitted any beautifying ideas in several years and hasn't accepted any proposals from corporators, saying this is not the business of corporators or any ward official of MCGM," Ghole wrote in his letter. "My adjoining ward corporator had submitted a proposal for the construction of a sculpture on the street," Ghole told. The intended sculpture had a height of six feet. Following that, the committee recommended lowering it to four feet.

The committee declined to approve the plan after we made essential revisions. When we met separately with the Chairman, he stated that it is not the business of corporators or assistant Commissioners. It should only be done using CSR funds." "What is the problem if corporators are willing to give money?" he added. Commissioner Chahal remained silent on the subject.
