Nine contracting companies have expressed interest in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Rs6,000 crore road concretization tenders, three of which are for the city and two for the western and eastern suburbs. A representative from the Road department stated, "Work will be awarded to the qualified contractor."
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has called new tenders costing Rs.6079.52 cr with an enhanced budget of Rs200 cr after cancelling 400 km of road concretization tenders worth Rs.5,800 cr.
This time, the
BMC will deploy "porous concrete" in some areas of Mumbai to prevent flooding on the roadways during the monsoon. Porous concrete is a type of concrete that collects or percolates rainwater and releases it in drains. Due to a lackluster response from bidders, the BMC had to cancel the last round of tenders. Approximately Rs 1,233 crore would be spent on 71 km of roads in the heart of Mumbai, Rs 846 crore on 70 km of roads in the eastern suburbs, and Rs 4,000 crores on 275 km of roads in the western suburbs.
The BMC has already finished concretizing 984.84 kilometres of roads; the project is currently being accelerated. A budget of Rs2,200 crores has been allocated by BMC for the concretization work that would be done on 236.58 km of roads in the years 2022-2023. For the upcoming year, the city authority has suggested 400 km of roadwork.
According to BMC, the Defect Liability Period (DLP), which was 20% for 10 years, has been loosened this time around by the officials. In the new tender, the BMC will retain a 20% bank guarantee from the contractor for the following 10 years, and every year, a 2% bank guarantee sum will be released to the contractor to aid in road maintenance.
