Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 as soon as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacked the civic body the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) changed the guidelines it had earlier put forth. It stated that they will be taking responsibility for building artificial ponds and soon as the pooja gets over will be filling them up. Chhath Pooja celebrated on November 10th till the next morning a festival which is mostly celebrated in Bihar.
Three days ago, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had released guidelines for Chhath Pooja celebrations directing that people should avoid beaches and seashores, which was being opposed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). With this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also had asked the organisers demanding for an artificial pool to construct it by themselves, but now the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) revised its guidelines looking at the allegations levelled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the city of Mumbai. With this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also asked the police personnel to be present at public places to ensure that there are no crowding and people are following the guidelines made by the corporation.
“Such celebrations also bring a huge fear with them, and there is a fear of the third wave so we do not want to take any chance, just like the last year restrictions large gatherings have been prohibited which were being demanded by different organizations. We have allowed the puja to be performed in artificial ponds, so the group organizing functions can take permission from their local municipal ward offices,” stated Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation senior official. Adding about the recorded cases of Covid 19 in the city of Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal stated that the total number of cases in average in a month comes out to be 13,000, this is fine but there is still fear of a possible outbreak.
