The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has put its foot down and refused to give in to corporators’ naming sprees.

BJP corporator Dnyanmurti Sharma had demanded the the Mumbai Fire Brigade fire stations be named after prominent people. Congress corporator Sunanda Lokare had also demanded that the new fire station built at Sathe Nagar on Ghatkopar Link Road be named after social reformer Annabhau Sathe.

However, civic chief Sitaram Kunte is of the opinion that it would be rational if the fire stations in the city bear their area names only. The BMC has 33 fire stations in Mumbai. All the city police stations and fire stations are known by the area they are located in.
