BMC plans to start IB board from next year after examining students in the pilot project
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has planned to start International Baccalaureate (IB) board, further to State Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray’s announcement earlier this month, by next year after examining the performance of students in the pilot project. Presently, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has schools of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) education department stated that the performance will be examined by them of students in the pilot project, which includes the CBSE and CISCE affiliation schools, and then plan on starting an International Board.

As of now, there are 12 Mumbai Public Schools (MPS) associated with private boards, of which 11 are associated with CBSE and one is associated with CISCE. At the beginning of the month, the Mumbai Public School (MPS) associated with CBSE at Aziz Baugh School in Chembur was inaugurated. More than 10,000 applications have been received for 4,000 seats in these civic-run schools which are associated with private boards for the academic year 2021-22.

“The plan is of opening international board in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools after which the Mumbai Public School will go further the CBSE and CISCE towards the IB and Cambridge board,” stated Sainath Durge, a member of the Civic Education Committee. “After this plan was put forth, a good response was received from students and parents, they are looking forward to the introduction of private board curriculum in municipal schools free of cost. An examining process will take place to check the performance of the students. We plan to start the IB and international board in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools from next year,” stated a senior official of the BMC Education Department.
