BMC plans to revamp bridges and flyovers in Mumbai
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to change the look of all the bridges and flyovers in Mumbai. The existing bridges will be refurbished with theme-based paintings and 3-D images on their structures. The project, which costs nearly ?8 crores, is expected to be completed in 18 months.

To enable smooth functioning of the traffic on and around these bridges, all the revamping work will be done during weekends, holidays and nights. According to one of the senior civic officials, the artwork theme for each of the bridges would be unique and distinctive and will be in tune with its location. For instance, a bridge that’s close to a heritage site would have that specific theme or if it’s near a local market or a business zone we can depict it accordingly.

An architect will be appointed by the contractor for the design and conceptualization of the themes and the artwork. The BMC will approve each of the themes. The approval process will either be done through the bridges department or by a committee set up for the same.

The official added, “It is the responsibility of the contractor to ensure that the strength and stability of the structures are not hindered. All other existing signposts, blinkers, warning signs and traffic signals must remain in their original spots. These signs should be visible by the instructions of the traffic police and these artworks should not cover up or camouflage the safety signs.”
