The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to conduct vaccination camps in housing societies to increase vaccination drive.  The city council is waiting for the central government's permission to set up such vaccination centers. The number of daily vaccinations in Mumbai is fluctuating due to low turnout among senior citizens.

Currently, 41,000 people are being vaccinated at 24 BMCs and eight private hospitals. Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani said on Wednesday, “Civic body has plans to conduct vaccinations in housing societies.  We sent a letter to the Central Government seeking their permission.  After government approval, we will allow private hospitals to set up centers on the premises of housing societies.  "Before approving the hospitals, we will check whether the hospital teams have adequate medical facilities," he added.

We will examine all aspects.  ” To encourage vaccination drive, the Civil Body will soon begin vaccination in two shifts from 7 to 2 in the morning  2 to 9 in the afternoon.  Although the civic body has allowed the vaccination centers to operate 24 hours a day, the BMC centers are currently closed at 5 p.m.  According to BMC records, more than 9.70 lakh people have been vaccinated in the city.BMC is enlisting the help of community organizations and corporators to increase the number of vaccinations.

Ain the last meeting, Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal had directed municipal officials and NGO's to involve in creating awareness about Covid vaccination.  Private hospitals employ at least 4,000 people a day, which is very low.  So we are involved in community organizations to encourage more people to be vaccinated,”BMC officials said.  Since most covid-19 cases come from housing societies compared to slums or ditches, this move will help spread the virus.  BMC data shows that in the last two months, more than 90 per cent of cases have come from housing societies or individual buildings.  There are more than 5,500 buildings with active seals.

With one lakh jobs per day, BMC aims to vaccinate 45 lakh people in the next 45 days.  The Civil Body has also sent a letter to increase the number of vaccination centers in private hospitals.  There are currently 100 vaccination centers across the city.  BMC expects the number of daily vaccinations to increase as the number of vaccine centers increases.  The BMC said it would try to complete the vaccination for all those who took the first job by May 31. Kakani said BMC would gradually increase the daily check-up to one lakh.  In the last few days, BMC has already surpassed 40,000 daily checks.
