The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) may have to extend the deadline for receiving responses to global tenders for Covid-19 vaccines. The current deadline is May 18. However, as of Monday afternoon, the civic body had not even received a single bid. On May 12, BMC won a global tender to purchase one million (10 million) doses of the vaccine. BMC is the richest civic body in India.

According to the tender document, those interested should send their questions by May 16. BMC did not receive a single question from an interested party. If we do not receive a response within the time limit, we may grant an extension.

So far we have not received any bids,” Additional Municipal Commissioner P Velarasu said. Velarasu, who is in charge of vaccine procurement, told India Today that all major global vaccine companies can participate in the bidding. Currently, Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik V are available in India. However, bidders including Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson are also eligible.

However, they need to obtain all the necessary permits and permits, including from the Drugs Controller General of India. Maharashtra and several other states are currently facing a shortage of Covid-19 vaccines. Vaccination drive for 18-44-year-olds is currently suspended.
