The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded 10,860 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, up 34.37 percent from the previous day and the highest daily tally since April 7, 2021, while two more patients succumbed to the infection. The number of coronavirus infections in Mumbai has risen to 8,18,462, while the mortality toll has risen to 16,381 according to the BMC in a bulletin. The city registered 8,082 COVID-19 cases on Monday, and the most recent daily tally showed an increase of 2,778 or 34.37 percent.
For the first time since April 7, 2021, when it recorded 10,428 cases and 23 fatalities during the pandemic's second wave, the financial capital has registered five-digit COVID-19 cases. Since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020, the city has only seen five-digit daily COVID-19 cases three times. In addition, this (10,860) is the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases documented in Mumbai since the pandemic began. On April 4, 2021, the city has recorded the largest number of COVID-19 instances ever: 11,163.
According to the advisory, 9,665 (89%) of the 10,860 new cases are asymptomatic, and just 834 persons have been brought to hospitals, with only 52 on oxygen support. Only 4,491 of the 30,565 hospital beds in the city are now occupied by coronavirus patients, accounting for 14.7% of the total.
According to the bulletin, due to an increase in cases in the city, the infection growth rate grew to 0.63 percent between December 28, 2021, and January 3, 2022, while the case doubling rate decreased to 110 days.
According to the BMC, 49,661 COVID-19 tests were conducted in Mumbai in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,38,64,594. In addition, 654 patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered cases in Mumbai to 7,52,012 with a 93 percent recovery rate, according to the bulletin.
According to the report, the large difference between new and recovered cases has increased Mumbai's total number of patients under treatment to 47,476 from 37,274 a day before. According to the newsletter, the number of sealed buildings is increasing at an exponential rate, with 389 already on the list. In slums and 'chawls' (old row tenements), the number of containment zones was smaller, at 16.
