BMC gets gesture to lay pipeline on Tata Mills premises

Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received approval from the National Textile Corporation Limited (NTCL) for the construction of an underground pipeline in the vicinity of the Tata Mills, which will enable the agency to expedite the construction of an underground water tank at Hindmata to prevent flooding. Meanwhile, NTCL has asked BMC to charge Rs 8.58 crore for using the mill premises. NTCL said in the letter of approval that the pipeline would be 1600 mm in diameter, 3 m wide, and 350 m long (including the workplace) for Rs 8.56 crore. 
 
BMC manufactures underground water tanks. Pramod Mahajan Udyan in Dadar (west) and St. Xavier's Ground in Parel to store excess rainwater and prevent flooding in Hinduism, one of the most affected areas in Mumbai. The Civil Body has already started the construction of tanks and installation of stormwater drains to supply rainwater to these tanks.

On Tuesday, we received permission from NTCL to install the pipeline for the project,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner P Velrasu. BMC officials said the tank at Pramod Mahajan Udyan has a storage capacity of 60,000 cubic meters and the Xavier Ground tank will store 30,000 cubic meters of water.
