The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), led by Prakash Ambedkar, has established a three-party alliance with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ahead of the forthcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections in 2022. (RJD). In the presence of leaders from the other two parties, Ambedkar declared the alliance at a press conference organised by VBA at Ambedkar Bhavan in Dadar.

In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the IUML is a powerful party, whereas the RJD has a stronghold in Bihar. During the press conference, the allies said that VBA's alliance with the IUML and the RJD may help them win the forthcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. In the 2018 civic elections, the VBA intends to run for 80-90 seats.

While speaking to the press "It's a three-party alliance," VBA President Prakash Ambedkar said. "Our doors are open for new parties who want to join with us. I don't pick who to form a coalition with, I welcome everyone. By the 15th of January, we shall disclose the election seat distribution. We're trying to kick off a new era in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)."  He went on to say, "This coalition was not inspired by religion, but by recognised political parties."

Meanwhile, the other two parties' representatives agreed with the VBA's views and issues. "As the Congress has decided to run alone, VBA's doors will be open to them," Ambedkar added, implying that the VBA is ready to form an alliance with the Indian National Congress.
