BMC Elections 2022
As the Maharashtra government has increased the number of wards in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from 227 to 236 after which Governor BS Koshyari's signature, the ordinance was passed. The Governor authorized authorization to promulgate the ordinance because the state legislature is not in session and other adjustments are needed, according to an urban development department officer. On November 30, the governor signed it.

Section 5 of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Act 1888, which specifies the number of directly elected representatives, is stated in the ordinance. The state cabinet agreed on November 10 to expand the number of wards from 227 to 236 in light of a 3.8% rise in the population under Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) jurisdiction and rapid urbanization. Furthermore, because the number of corporators was fixed at 227 in the 2001 census and was not increased following the 2011 census, the decision was made to provide elected representatives with more representation.

The State Election Commission (SEC) was waiting for the ordinance to be issued, according to the Free Press Journal. SEC will now write to the BMC, requesting that the ward borders be redrawn by the ordinance. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, which are scheduled for February 2022, maybe postponed for at least two months since the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will have to remap its wards from northwest to Southeast Mumbai.
