BMC elections 2022: BMC looks forward to taking out money from the emergency fund for development activities
Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022, the civic body has come ahead and proposed to transfer about 600 crores from its emergency infrastructure requirement fund to raise the three civic departments that are Roads, Bridges and Storm Water Drains.

This step by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials will help meet expenses that it has planned for the financial year 2021-22. The step also became necessary as the budgetary allocation for these three departments for 2021 was going to be ended, there was a requirement of more funds to further carry the development work with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 around the corner.

The decision of transferring has not been finalized yet, as it will be proposed in front of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) standing committee in the coming week. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already utilized 97.7 percent of the funds which were allotted for the roads and traffic department for the year 2021, also utilised 83.2 percent of funds which were allotted to the bridges departments and 96. 4 percent of funds which were allotted to the Storm Water Drains department. Out of the 600 crore which is in the emergency fund, 200 crores will be taken out for three departments respectively, to take the activities further.

The response to take this fund has got mixed responses from corporators in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). “There are many works related to infrastructure in these three departments and if there is need of additional funds, these works will have to be disbursed. However, the civic body has not put forth an efficient plan, what if we face an emergency infrastructure need?” stated Asif Zakaria, a Congress corporator from Bandra stated.
