Following this initiative, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to focus on making people aware of hygiene and sanitation, proper cleanliness at public and community washrooms, giving proper training to the conservancy and sanitation workers.
“The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that it has not left anything that has to be done to get the best and top spot at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign. The efforts of the municipal workers were all in wane in the pandemic due to which lockdown occurred so it was decided to start it from the beginning and complete the mission,” stated a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), looks forward to withholding the title it earned as the city was revalidated as an open defecation-free status by the Quality Council of India (QCI) which is a Union Government affiliated agency. Though there are still some areas in the city of Mumbai where people continue to defecate in open.
“We have worked very hard to make the city of Mumbai free from open defecation, for this immediately toilets were set up in slums as they did not have required facilities, and some toilets were repaired, reconstructed, and the work on some toilets is still going on,” stated a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officer.
The official further stated that many people have stopped segregating and treating waste in their premises at the time of lockdown being imposed in the city of Mumbai, looking at this we sent them notices and gave them warnings so that they stop doing so.
