BMC elections 2022: As BJP eyeing North Indian votes, BMC revises its guidelines for Chhath Pooja

As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 are around the corner, the political parties aiming at the north Indians ahead of the Chhath Pooja celebrations, this eye by the opposition triggered the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) resulting in a change in guidelines for the celebration, which is to be celebrated on 10th of November.

As earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had stated that the organizers will have to take the responsibility of setting up artificial ponds and then filling them up, but as soon as the decision was opposed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), looking at this hit back at it and on Monday gave directives that they will be forming artificial ponds themselves around the city of Mumbai. Chhath Puja, which is an ancient Hindu festival done for the sun, is celebrated mainly by the north Indians from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar.

With the revised directives the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also stated that the civic body will also bear the expenses which will be required to make and fill up artificial ponds in the city. The last guidelines were framed in such a way that the citizens should be avoiding beaches, and celebrations should be strictly done at artificial pons which will be made by private organizers and they will be paying for it.

With this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress its ally in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government opposed this and asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to set up pools on their own, the way they do for Ganpati Festival every year. With this regards a letter was sent to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, requesting him for the formation of artificial ponds.
