Mumbai: BMC has announced its cold storage facility for two walk-in coolers (WIC) with a capacity of 40 cubic meters at Kanjumarg in the eastern suburbs.BMC said that if the vaccine requires storage below 2-8 degrees Celsius, the bidding vaccine manufacturers will have to create their cooling infrastructure to supply the vaccine to Mumbai.
Bhimeshwari, the first corporation in the country to procure the
BMC vaccine and invite global tenders on Wednesday, procured 1 crore vaccine doses with a global expression of interest (EOI) on bonds. Civic officials said the applicant will be required to provide adequate storage facilities for vaccines for storage and temperature requirements other than those available at BMC.
If any vaccine requires storage beyond 2-8 C, they should create their cold storage infrastructure.
Payments will be made specifically for the facility,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) P Velrasu. Two walk-in coolers (WICs) with a capacity of 40 cubic meters have been specified in the tender at Kanjumarg in the eastern suburbs. The temperature of these WICs is maintained at 2 to 8 C.
Although Covishield, Covacsin, Modena, Sputnik V, Johnson, and Johnson vaccines can be stored at temperatures of 2 to 8 C for up to 30 days, Pfizer should be stored at a temperature as low as 80 to minus 60 degrees Celsius. 2 to 8 degrees for five days. BMC said it would be clearer if any changes were needed in the tender when it received emails from bidders. If the last date for submission of questions for tenders is May 16, BMC will open EOI by May 18.
The tender document states that EOI's schedule is temporary and that BMC may change any or all of its schedules by notifying participants. No Chinese company will be allowed to participate in the tender. The Citizens' Committee said that along with Bharat Biotech and the Serum Institute of India (SII), BMC is also monitoring vaccines from Fischer, Modena, Sputnik, Johnson, and Johnson.
Construction will start in July, said NTI Commission member Dr. VK Paul said.
Paul said the Indian government is working with manufacturers of vaccines such as Modena, Pfizer, Johnson, and Johnson for immediate use in India. BMC has stated in the tender that it will not pay the bidder in advance.
When asked if the payment system to the auctioneer would affect BMC's potential only after the vaccine had been delivered, Velrasu said, "We have not kept the condition of a safe deposit and a genuine cash deposit in our EOI." But the payment will be released according to the distribution.
Due to the shortage of vaccines, many countries have promised to pay manufacturers in advance to secure doses.
