On the Tuesday, March 16, COVID-19 cases increased in the Dadar market in Mumbai and the second wave hit Maharashtra. People in the popular market were seen violating social distance norms and many were seen without masks. As the result, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) temporarily decided to relocate the Dadar wholesale vegetable and flower market.

The decision was taken during a meeting between Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar and other officials at BMC's G North ward office on March 17.  BMC officials said the city government is considering two options that could temporarily change the market.  The large open MMRDA ground at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and the Somayya playground in Zion are two possible options that BMC is looking at.  However, members from the market association will take the final call after the mayor decides to visit.

Dadar Pushpa Market, which is regularly visited by thousands of Mumbaikars, has its stalls for about 400-500 traders.  The market area just below the Dadar flyover becomes very busy during the day, making it very difficult for the authorities to maintain social distance.  Despite the increase in the number of marshals in the Dadar market, sellers and consumers are violating the norms, officials said.  Since February, the number of cases has increased in the G North ward where Dadar falls.  On Wednesday, 62 cases were reported here, with more than 600 currently active cases.
