The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set aside Rs 5 crore for retrofitting existing buildings throughout the city. It has begun to use retrofitting to implement new technologies in order to replace outdated systems that have become inefficient and ineffective.
Retrofit solutions are required for efficient energy reductions that do not jeopardise environmental comfort. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now concentrating on enforcing the 'energy efficiency construction code.' The focus currently is on reducing energy demand for heating and cooling, ventilation and lighting, water heating, and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) office appliance electricity use.
This comes at a time when
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2022 are around the corner. With this for its official departmental fleet, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recently adopted e-vehicles as a policy. It also intends to create a network of 100 electric vehicle charging stations around Mumbai.
To combat air pollution produced by suspended particulate matter, e-sweeping vehicles are being developed (SPM). "This would not only minimise manual sweeping efforts, but it would also lower the net carbon emitted due to the fossil fuel burned in the process," BMC Chief IS Chahal said. For a house-to-house garbage collection, small capacity e-vehicles (about 600 kg payload) equipped with bins/ compartments (green, blue, and yellow) for separate collection, storage, and transportation of segregated wet, dry, and domestic hazardous waste will be deployed.
