The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC's) ward has resorted to the British-era practice of washing arterial roads and pathways in the Nariman Point, Churchgate and Colaba neighbourhoods to clean up the dusty roads of Mumbai. BMC staff have been observed cleaning and removing waste, debris, and undesired items from pathways over the past eight days.

The ongoing building of the Metro 3 line is a major source of dust, as the dust lands on zebra crossings, dividers, and lines on the roads, obscuring traffic markings in various locations. Even traffic cops who use CCTV to monitor traffic couldn't see the road marking lines. Given these considerations, the decision to wash the roadways was made.

"For cleaning, we've hired a jet machine. The equipment applies pressure to water in order to remove thick dust "Shivdas Gurav, A ward Assistant Municipal Commissioner, remarked. He emphasized that the BMC's goal is to maintain public walkways and main roads clean, noting that P D'mello Road, Chowpatty Road, and Bhatia Garden Road have all been cleaned thus far. "We were unable to clean the roadways around Vidhan Bhavan and Mantralaya due to assembly proceedings. However, these roads would be washed soon as well "He added that the clean-up will continue until the monsoon.
