The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday allowed online food and essentials to be distributed 24x7 every day, in protest of restrictions imposed on the spread of the corona virus.  In a new order issued by BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal, all online home deliveries, food and essentials (e-commerce) are allowed 24 hours a day, through all online service providers such as Zomato and Swiggy.

During the weekend lockdown, however, personal travel from hotels is not permitted, although home deliveries are permitted.  Roadside food stalls, including fruit stalls, are only allowed to deliver parcels or pick up services during the weekend lockdown.  The BMC also said that the movements of domestic workers, cooks, drivers, housekeepers, nurses and medical attendants who provide services to senior citizens and sick people are allowed every day from 7 am to 10 pm. At the same time, students or candidates who have to appear for various examinations, including competitive examinations, should be allowed to make the necessary moves to appear for the examinations during the weekend lockdown and be considered valid for hall tickets.  BMC said they also have permission with an administrator.

The civic body also said that the eye clinic and optician shops would be allowed to remain open within the stipulated time. The Maharashtra government on Sunday announced new restrictions following the increase in Covid-19 cases, saying all beaches, gardens and public places would be closed on weekdays from 8 pm to 7 am and on Fridays from 8 pm to 7 pm.  Monday morning. The government had made it clear that local authorities could be called upon to close public spaces within their jurisdiction in the event of congestion.
