BMC is all set up to install solar panels along with Mumbai Coastal Project
Ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections 2022, the civic body has planned to set up solar panels to generate electricity from the 10 Km long stretch of the Mumbai coastal road project. In the series of the plan comes the order from the State Environment Minister and Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Aaditya Thackeray directing the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to find space for installation of solar panels on the coastal road.

In a long-term plan, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will first identify the space on the cycle track or divider which will also be formed under the current work of the coastal road project. The plan was disclosed by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray when he was signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) related to climate change with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officers.

“More than 90 hectares of green space will be there in the coastal road; we want carbon sequestration while using multiple measures. The first thing we need to do is have a global call for design for the landscape and trees will also have a dense urban forest. We already have a cycle track and walking pathway and I have also asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to find more areas for having solar panels either over the cycle track or the median to find if we can form solar energy,” stated Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He also assured that the open space would not be encroached by forming the solar panels.
