The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set up 244 hotels as shipbuilding hubs in Mumbai city and suburban belt following the rapid rise in Covid-19 cases. The list includes 29 five-star hotels, 34 four-star hotels, 56 three-star hotels, 38 two-star hotels, 86 budget hotels and one airport hotel.

BMC senior officials said that for security reasons, passengers coming from abroad will be transferred to the embargoed centers.  Patients who are unwilling to stay at home may also move to these hotels for the safety of family members, officials added. The cost of the hotel will be borne by the passengers and the positive patients, officials said.

The average price range for five-star hotels (per day) varies from Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,500, for four-star hotels from Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000, for three-star hotels from Rs 1,800 to Rs 3,700 and for two-star hotels from Rs 1,700 to Rs 3,200.  1,200 to Rs. 3,000 in budget hotels.

Currently the cases are increasing rapidly and the capacity of the bed is rapidly filling up and we cannot risk anything now, so we have reactivated these facilities,”a senior civic official said.
