Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that as the number of Covid-19 cases is increasing across Mumbai, the civil body will be activated and more beds will be set up in dedicated hospitals and Covid care centers.  The Civil Body re-published the list of ward war rooms and requested the citizen to make hospital beds available only through ward war rooms. The city reported 9,090 new corona virus cases on Saturday.

On Sunday, 10 11,163 cases were reported.  This is the highest number of ODIs this year.  Eighty percent of ICU beds are critically ill. We have activated 3,000 more beds in dedicated COVID-19 health care centers and dedicated COVID-19 hospitals in the last seven days,”said Chahal. “The number of beds available on our live dashboard for allotment has gone up.  Increased from 12,906 to hospital.

As many as 4,160 beds were vacant till Saturday night for the allotment, according to a statement from BMC.  Over 3,000 beds (including 400 in ICUs) will be operational over the next seven days at dedicated COVID-19 health care centers and dedicated COVID-19 hospitals. Chahal pointed out that some patients were ignorantly waiting to choose a medical facility for admission to the hospital and were in serious condition for not following the protocol prescribed by the civic body.

I request that patients not be admitted to the hospital.  Because the treatment protocol is the same everywhere and is now well established, they should keep beds wherever symptoms are available to begin treatment.  Many beds are available at other hospitals. Beds will be allocated as per protocol through ward level battle rooms and walk-in admission to the hospital will not be allowed.

Over the past week, BMC has set up 30CCC-2 (CVD-19 Care Centers) facilities.  The CCC-2 facilities, which can accommodate 4,600 patients, have 18,300 beds.  Chahal said he was in cahoots with the civic body.CCC-1 facilities are mostly set up in hotels and halls, and 24-hour monitoring is not available, while CCC-2 is a government facility and is available to doctors and nurses full time. At the same time, activating the beds is not an easy task.  With the spread of the Pandemic Curve Post in October 2020, many hospitals have reduced the strength of the Covid Bed to accommodate non-Covid patients.
