BMC accused of holding promotions of 132 Engineers’

It was alleged by the BJP that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has put promotions of 132 engineers on hold, as the Civic General body is not clearing the proposal due to their vested interests. In a letter to Mayor Kishori Pednekar, BJP MLA Ameet Satam has stated that the promotions of 105 Assistant Engineers and 27 Executive Engineers are being held up as the civic general body has shelved its meetings thrice.
“This is a major cash-for-promotion racket inside the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC),” claimed Satam. However, this is not the first time the BMC has been caught in the middle of such allegations. In April, Samajwadi Party MLA and Corporator Rais Shaikh had also alleged the civic body of a "cash-for-transfer" scam. In a letter to BMC Commissioner Iqbal Chahal, Shaikh alleged that there was huge corruption in the city engineers’ department which governs the transfers and postings.
“The reason for the incidents and accidents in the city is the engineers not working diligently due to the transfers and postings being done through payment of money,” Shaikh alleged. It was asked by Shaikh to I. S Chahal to do a detailed investigation into the matter of transfer of engineers and also asked him to move those engineers who have completed their term in a particular department.
