BMC accumulates Rs 30,96,21,200 as fine for not wearing shroud

During the Covid-19 epidemic on 24 February, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai was not fined Rs 30,96,21,200.  From April 1, 2020 to February 15 this year, 15,16,398 people were arrested by BMC without a mask and fined Rs 30,69,09,800, Civic officials said.  In Mumbai's K-West ward, a maximum of 1,08,069 people were arrested without masks. 

 

This includes Juhu, Andheri (West) and Versova. Of the culprits, 13,008 were arrested on 22 February and fined Rs 26,01,600, BMC officials said.  BMC has imposed a fine of Rs 200 for not wearing a public mask.BMC officials also said that some criminals who do not have money have been asked to pay fines for community services such as street sweeping. Meanwhile, Amravati in Maharashtra, one of the districts that contributed most to the rising daily incidence of infections, recorded the highest one-day increase on 23 February.

 

The district is in a seven-day lockdown that began on 22 February.  All shops, institutes, schools and colleges in the district are now closed.  Only essential services will be allowed. In February, the number of daily cases in Maharashtra started increasing rapidly.  In February alone, Amravati reported 9,069 Kovid-19 cases.  Of these, 4,728 have been found since February 17.  Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has urged citizens to strictly follow the guidelines set by the government on masks and social distances or face another round of lockouts.
