Union Minister and MP Piyush Goyal held a series of meetings on Sunday with BJP MLAs and former party corporators from the Mumbai North parliamentary constituency, which he represents. The focus of these discussions was to chalk out strategies and intensify preparations for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
In addition to these political meetings, Goyal also participated in Shiv aartis along with his supporters at Kandivli and Dahisar. These events were organized to celebrate the prestigious recognition of 12 forts linked to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj being included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The BJP conducted similar Shiv aartis across Mumbai over the weekend to mark this honour for what UNESCO termed as “Maratha military landscapes.”
The BJP has already shifted into high gear with on-ground election preparations, and Goyal is reportedly aiming to significantly improve the party’s performance in Mumbai North in the forthcoming civic polls. In the previous BMC elections, the BJP contested separately from the Shiv Sena and managed to secure 75% of the seats in this region. Given this stronghold, Mumbai North remains crucial for the party’s strategy, especially as it was the only seat among the six in Mumbai that BJP managed to win in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Piyush Goyal has been actively visiting different parts of his constituency and consistently holding discussions with government officials to resolve administrative issues and clear long-pending hurdles that could impact development work. His frequent interactions with party leaders and grassroots workers are being viewed as part of a larger strategy to consolidate the BJP’s presence ahead of the civic elections.
A BJP MLA, while commenting on the recent developments, expressed confidence that the UNESCO recognition for the forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj would further strengthen the party’s influence not only in Mumbai but across the state. The MLA noted that this achievement comes at a time when there is an ongoing political debate over Hindi versus regional identity, and the honour for Maratha heritage will resonate positively with local voters, especially in areas with strong Maratha and Maharashtrian sentiments.
The BJP hopes that by combining cultural pride with strong organizational groundwork, it will be able to expand its voter base and secure a larger share of seats in the upcoming BMC elections.
