The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has begun establishing itself as a first strategic mover for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, asserting that nearly 1.45 lakh Mumbai residents have signed up as volunteers for its “future-building vision” for the city. The party, which has long aspired to gain full authority over Asia’s wealthiest civic organisation, has kick-started a large-scale outreach initiative aimed at studying public expectations at the grassroots before finalizing its BMC election manifesto.

According to details shared from Ameet Satam’s office, 53% of those who participated in the survey expressed dissatisfaction with civic services currently available in Mumbai. Citizens ranked roads, water supply, healthcare, education, housing and rehabilitation as Mumbai’s most urgent problem areas. Satam emphasized that residents expect quick and concrete solutions to civic issues such as road repairs, pothole management, waste collection, nullah cleaning, and effective flood-prevention measures during the monsoon.

The previous BMC elections were conducted in 2017, and although the corporation’s term ended in 2022, the next civic polls were postponed due to the legal battle over the reservation framework in the Supreme Court. Recently, the apex court instructed that all pending local body elections across Maharashtra — including the BMC polls — must be completed by January 31, 2026, effectively setting a deadline for the long-awaited civic election.

The BJP’s citywide public-participation programme attracted responses from multiple generations, indicating broad demographic engagement. As per campaign data: 2% of respondents were below the age of 18, 25% fell in the 18–30 age bracket, a major 65% belonged to the 30–60 age category, and 8% were above the age of 60. A senior BJP leader confirmed that the insights gathered from this large-scale survey will be reflected in the party’s BMC election manifesto, along with its comprehensive developmental roadmap for Mumbai’s long-term transformation.

Meanwhile, with the state government completing one year in office on December 5, the party is preparing for a three-day portrait exhibition titled “Transforming Mumbai, Transforming Maharashtra”, set to take place at the World Trade Centre. The exhibition is expected to showcase major development achievements under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with artist Bharat Singh’s curated artworks illustrating milestone projects. The event will be inaugurated by Mumbai BJP President Ameet Satam, and prominent leaders including Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, and Ashish Shelar will also be present.

The exhibition aims to highlight the BJP’s governance model, infrastructural gains, and the future development blueprint for Mumbai and Maharashtra, thereby complementing the party’s intensified pre-poll campaign. Party insiders believe that combining public feedback with documentation of completed development work will reinforce the message that the BJP intends to take Mumbai toward long-term progress with public participation at its core.

Overall, the BJP is signaling that the upcoming BMC election will be fought not only on political grounds but also on the basis of civic performance, public involvement, and a vision-based developmental agenda. The combination of large-scale citizen engagement, volunteer recruitment, and the display of the government’s achievements is expected to form the cornerstone of the party’s election strategy, as it reaffirms its long-standing goal of establishing full administrative control over Mumbai’s municipal corporation.
