Maharashtra: BEST plans to procure 1900 electric buses in Mumbai
In a new development, a tender notice has been issued by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) on Monday. It has been issued for calling bidders to procure new buses. The process will start after a proposal has been passed by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) committee, after which the procurement of the buses will start processing. 1,900 fully electric buses will be introduced by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) gradually. 
 
“The bidder has been called as the tender notice has been issued. More details in the process of requirement and time frame of procurement need to be discussed with the bidders. Before BEST the bused in past times were procured under the scheme of Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME-2),” stated a senior BEST official. 
 
This FAME scheme advances the use of electric vehicles in the country. Soon after the announcement, Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray took on Twitter and congratulated stating “This is very good to hear that a tender notice of 1900 fully electric buses has been put by BEST. As of now, the city of Mumbai has a total of 386 electric buses.
 
And attempts to assist other cities in the state of Maharashtra are being made by @MahaEnvCC so that their bus fleets are increased, with the help of policies made by the Government of India and Government of Maharashtra.” In August, BEST had introduced a total of 24 electric buses. This organization will also be procuring electric vehicle charging stations in the bus depots, such stations have beforehand been set up at Dharavi and Worli depots.
