At one of the largest train stations in the city, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), passengers and the general public will soon be able to update or obtain a new Aadhaar card. The Central Railway has begun putting Aadhaar counters at its train stations as it moves toward digitization. On August 15, the CR opened a counter in Pune; a month later, a comparable counter will open in CSMT.

In collaboration with UIDAI, this is being done (Unique Identification Authority of India). The Aadhaar updation counters would be staffed by trained railroad employees, according to the CR official. There will be free services for new Aadhaar enrolment and required Aadhaar updates, including biometrics for kids. Additional optional adjustments, such as changing your address or mobile number, will cost you Rs 50. The CR top PRO stated that "the facility will be provided at other major stations like CSMT, Nagpur gradually."

The decision has been well-received by passengers, who have urged that this type of facility be offered at all suburban stations. According to Thane resident Rajesh Joshi, 45, "Aadhaar cards have now become a crucial component of our lives, which also need updating from time to time due to change in residence or phone number." It may be necessary for people to take a day off work to update their Aadhaar cards. They may simply upgrade without taking a day off from work if update centres are established at all major railway stations, according to 34-year-old Kalyan resident Vikram Singh.
