As queues for second shot grows, BMC seeks aid from CSR for stocks
The public-run vaccine centres face a shortage of vaccines and they have hundreds lining up daily, while private hospitals having thousands of doses have fewer takers. This oddity has occasioned the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) civic authorities to inspect the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) route via tie-ups with private facilities, corporates, and NGOs to widen the administration drive of vaccines in the slums.

In a recent meeting between the Guardian Minister Aditya Thackeray and Municipal Commissioner IS Chahal, Aditya Thackeray guided that the corporation must inspect such routes. Despite floating tenders in the city the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has failed to acquire vaccines on its own.

“There should be several attempts to make vaccine stocks accessible in the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) as well as corporate social responsibility funds and also not forgetting to arrange awareness campaigns for the ones who want to take a second dose,” stated Thackeray.

The Additional Municipal Commissioner Suresh Kakani stated, that a few private hospitals have agreed to donate doses for slum dwellers. Discussions are being held with Godrej Hospital in Vikhroli and Jaslok at Peddar Road apart from a few NGOs, stated Dr. Mangala Gomare, the Executive Health Officer of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). “They have agreed to donate 1 lakh doses each, but we are still sorting out the fine details,” she said.
