Anna Hazare, a social activist, has decided to postpone his planned hunger strike against the Maharashtra government's decision to allow the sale of wine in supermarkets and grocery stores, citing assurances from the state government that it will consider citizens' views before proceeding with the policy.
On Sunday, Hazare's home Ralegan Siddhi village in Ahmednagar district hosted a 'gram sabha.' "I told the villages that the state government has decided to present the cabinet's decision to the public for comments and objections and that only after they have given their approval will the government make a final decision. As a result, I've decided to call off tomorrow's hunger strike "Later, Hazare stated.
Hazare wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray a few days ago, stating that the people of the state have asked that the policy allowing the sale of wine at supermarkets and walk-in shops to be reinstated immediately. When asked why the government wants to sell wine at supermarkets and grocery stores during a meeting in his community on Sunday, Hazare responded there are enough beer bars, permit rooms, and shops to sell it. Is it attempting to spread addiction? He inquired.
"During a debate with Maharashtra government officials, I told them that I don't want to live in the state, and as a result, the administration began to reconsider its decision," the activist stated. Wine, according to Hazare, is not a part of Maharashtra's culture, where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and saint Tukaram Maharaj previously resided. He stated, "The sale of wine in supermarkets will ruin our culture."
When state government officials came to meet with him, Hazare warned them that they should have considered the public's opinion before deciding on the wine policy. This is a democracy, not a dictatorship. As a result, the decision should be made only after individuals have been invited to submit recommendations and concerns, and citizens should be given three months to express their opinions, he said.
