As the concern for a new variant of the Covid 19 ignites in the country, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is taking due care to keep the new variant away from Mumbaikars. A virtual meeting was conducted on the 27th of November where the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Chief Iqbal Singh Chahal had discussed ways as to how the passengers who will be landing in the city from the affected countries would be tested.

The meeting was accompanied by representatives of Airports, Mumbai Police, some big Hospital staff and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) department. Discussing the issue with senior staff, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Chief Chahal stated that there should not be any stone unturned in the level of authorities to take necessary steps to be protected from the new variant.

The airline authorities were asked to instruct that all passengers who visited any of the affected countries in the last 15 days should be isolated. A request has already been made by Chahal to the state government for a request to the centre government to ban all the international flights from South Africa and other affected countries to avoid any major issues in the city of Mumbai. If this cannot be done, at least institutional quarantine should be made compulsory or testing of all domestic passengers, he stated in the letter to Chief Minister.

“The Jumbo Covid Centres will be inspected yet again to make sure that all the proper facilities are there, to be on a safer side if the situation gets worse, all the facilities and services in the hospital from beds to medicine will be checked upon time to time as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner has given directives,” stated Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official.
