The Shinde-Fadnavis administration on Friday declared a suspension of toll collection from August 27 to September 11 in front of the Ganapathi holiday, which is celebrated with great merriment and fair, especially in Konkan. The toll waiver will be applied to the Mumbai Goa and Mumbai Bangalore highways as well as the state Public Work Department roads, according to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who is also the head of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. The government resolution has been released by the Public Works Department for the convenience of Konkan travellers.
The decision by CM Shinde is well appreciated because many working-class people from Mumbai and the surrounding areas travel from the Konkan region to Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts for the Ganapati festival. The demand for a toll collection waiver for the Ganapati festival was expressed by both the ruling and opposition parties during the monsoon session that ended on Thursday.
CM Shinde stated that he has ordered the transport department, traffic police, and regional transport officers and police to provide stickers named "Ganeshotsav 2022 Konkan Darshan" at the police stations, traffic police chowkies, and RTO offices in order to facilitate hassle-free and comfortable journeys. For the advantage of public travelling for the Ganapati holiday, the CM has also instructed the police and transportation departments to spread information about the pass and sticker facility and its availability.
Meanwhile, today's Mumbai-to-Goa highway was inspected by Public Work Minister Ravindra Chavan, who also oversaw his department's patching efforts. Chavan acknowledged that potholes pose serious challenges for travellers and announced that he has already given the department orders to repair them quickly.
