Maharashtra: Gandhari Bridge reopened after no crack was found
The Gandhari Bridge in Kalyan which was closed after the speculation was being made of a crack, was reopened on Tuesday around 6.30 pm by the Public Works Departments (PWD) after there was no crack found in it. The whole inspection was performed of its pillars in a boat, by the Public Works Department (PWD) officers and then they claimed that the bridge was safe and could be used for traffic.

The Public Work Department (PWD) officers stated that there was no crack but due to the recent heavy downpour, there was a lot of waste gathered in the pillars which included a black cloth that appeared as a crack. The officials further stated that the bridge requires minor repair work. The bridge carries significance as it is the vital link between the cities of Kalyan and Bhiwandi. The bridge which has been built over the Ulhas River connects Kalyan in the west to National Highway 3 at Padgha check post. The PWD takes care of the bridge and is around 25 years old.

“According to the information received from the Public Work Department (PWD), the bridge was shut immediately after the speculations were being made on Monday night,” stated a Traffic Police Inspector from the Kalyan traffic unit. All the vehicular movement which took place on this route had been diverted to the alternative Kalyan-Bhiwandi Bypass Road since Monday night.
