The Maharashtra Government, which has led the way in promoting electric vehicles and alternative fuel vehicles, wants to offer a bevy of incentives and develop an ecosystem to support their growth, according to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. His declaration came only days after the state reported a 153 percent increase in electric vehicle sales in the first nine months of 2021-22. The goal for the state is for electric vehicles to account for 10% of all new vehicle registrations.

The CM also emphasized Maharashtra's leadership role, stating that the state government is committed to accelerating the implementation of its electric vehicle legislation, which was unveiled last year. The CM was speaking at Pune's first alternate fuel conference. Thackeray urged industry leaders to invest in alternative fuel manufacturing facilities, which would help Maharashtra maintain its leadership position in this field.

Subhash Desai, the State's Industry Minister, said his government is working to build electric charging infrastructure across the state. The government is incentivizing both the demand and supply sides of the electric vehicle market. Meanwhile, Nitin Raut, the state's energy minister, has stated that his department will employ hydrogen as an alternative to conventional electricity in the state. "We're moving our electricity generation focus from fossil fuels to hydrogen," he continued. The state government has designated MahaVitaran as the nodal agency for the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, according to Raut.
