13 non-government members' appointments to the State Board for Wildlife by the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government were revoked by the Shinde-Fadnavis administration in Maharashtra State Board for Wildlife (SBWL). Former Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, former state minister Dattatraya Bharani, Congressman Dheeraj Deshmukh, an Eco Pro-Institute representative, Anuj Khare, Vishwas Katdare, Bittu Sehgal, Kishor Rithe, Punam Dhanavate, Kundan Hate, Yadav Tarte-Patil, Suhas Waingankar, and Rohidas Dagle were all on the list
In accordance with section 6 of the Wildlife (Protection)Act 1972, the MVA government re-established the SBWL in August 2020 and May 2021. The government resolution about the termination of Aaditya and other appointments to the SBWL has been released by the Revenue and Forest Department. The SBWL, which held its first meeting on September 21, is now headed by CM Eknath Shinde and Vice Chairman Sudhir Mungantiwar, both members of the Shinde-Fadnavis coalition administration in Maharashtra.
A new board for the SBWL will soon be established by the government. 16 people in total have been named for member appointments. They have been asked for biodata by the state's Principal Chief Conservator of Forests so that an official announcement on the formation of SBWL can be made. Anuj Khare (Pune), Hemant Ogale (Sindhudurg), Raman Kulkarni (Kolhapur), Vinit Arora (Nagpur), Punam Dhanavate (Chandrapur), Nitin Desai (Nagpur), Jayant Kulkarni (Pune), Kaustubh Pandhripande (Washim), Rajesh Thmobre (Jalgaon), Abhay (Dhule).
All 49 Wildlife Sanctuaries in Maharashtra, including six tiger reserves, five national parks, and protected forests, are subject to major policy choices made by SBWL. Additionally, it grants approvals for construction projects, recommends strategies for wildlife mitigation, and serves as the body that recommends the notification of new protected areas. The Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972 will allow the board to execute its authority.
