The state government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to meet the deadlines for several showpiece projects, ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections in 2017.

A meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to fast-track infrastructure projects, carrying out a review of various projects such as the Sewri-Nhava Sheva Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz underground Metro, two more elevated Metro corridors in the city and the Navi Mumbai International Airport.

The government agencies Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) are also chasing deadlines to speed up work on new Metro lines in the city.

The MMRC informed the chief minister that it would try to begin civil work on the 33.5-km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro corridor by May this year

“The government expects to award work orders for two other elevated Metro corridors, one from Dahisar East to Andheri East and the second from Dahisar to DN Nagar, by March this year,” a government official said.
