The ‘A’ ward of the BMC which covers area like the Nariman point, Colaba, parts of Dock area, CST, Churchgate, Fort, Cuffe Parade and Ballard Estate really does lead the way. Well-laid and repaired roads, a fresh lick of paint on dividers, traffic islands with flowers in bloom – if not for the sweltering heat, it would be a pleasure to walk on its streets.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has 24 wards with 227 corporators or councillors. The drive which began on May 15, will be concluded by June 10, but its effects are already on show.

“BMC tells citizens to keep the city clean. But, what we preach to others need to be practiced first. Hence, the decision to deploy civic staff for cleanliness and makeover of the ward was taken,” said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant municipal commissioner. Of the 110 major and 89 minor roads within ‘A’ ward’s jurisdiction road work on 17 streets has been completed.
